Histogenesis of Adenosquamous Carcinoma of the Esophagus

1988
Adenosquamous carcinoma of the esophagus, with both adenocarcinomatous and squamous elements, has been termed adenoacanthoma or mucoepidermoid carcinoma. A few reports on this particular neoplasm of the esophagus have been published. Some authors have emphasized the problem of the origin of neoplasms of this type, but the histogenetic mechanism is the subject of controversy. The purpose of this study is to analyze the simultaneous occurrence of tubular and squamous elements in four esophageal carcinomas in relation to histogenetic mechanism.
