Study of Spray Evaporation of Ethanol and Gasoline Fuel

With the development of automobile engine,gasoline direct injection(GDI) engine has become the focus of researchers' attention.The structure and evaporation of liquid fuel spray play more important roles in controlling the combustion stability,engine efficiency as well as emission formations.This paper investigates the atomization and evaporation of ethanol and gasoline sprays using Schlieren technique.The results show that the ambient temperature,ambient pressure and injection pressure have significant effects on spray penetration length.However,the effect of the fuel temperature on the fuel spray penetration is very minor when it is below the boiling point of the fuel.Therefore,changing the environment temperature,ambient pressure,the injection pressure and fuel temperature are effective ways to optimize the spray penetration.
