Photovoltaic power plants participation in frequency and voltage regulation

The paper presents the features of emergency processes in isolated power systems and island operation modes involving frequency and voltage regulations by photovoltaic power plants (PVPPs). On the basis of calculations it is proved that when using frequency-independent control of PVPP inverters, power shortage conditions are much more difficult for consumers of electric power. Requirements for PVPP participation in frequency and voltage regulation are presented, and the features of PVPP inverter control algorithms are analyzed in normal and emergency operation conditions of the grid. The necessity of imposing the technical requirements for PVPP inverters and their control algorithms is considered, including participation in the implementation of emergency automation algorithms for the adjacent grid at the stage of technological connection of PVPP based on transient conditions calculations.
