Equine herds as sentinels for Venezuelan Equine encephalitis virus activity, Nicaragua 1977

1983
Collection of sera from 93 horses on Nicaraguan ranches and subsequent serologic testingfor VEE virus antibody show that such horses can be used as cheap and effective sentinels for detecting VEE virus activity. The results also draw attention to the need for jxriodic monitoring of equine herds’ VEE antibody levels in parts of Central America susceptible to the disease.
