Oil consumption measurement under DOE conditions

Oil consumption is an increasingly important catchword in the internal combustion engine industry. This article explicitly defines the term oil consumption and presents a measurement system for determining sump oil consumption. Based on the example of a part-factorial DoE, the procedure and measurement results using the “Movan” measurement system from Federal Mogul Burscheid GmbH are demonstrated. The emphasis is placed on the accuracy attainable with statistical confidence over minimal measurement periods.
