Synthesis of osmium hydride under high hydrogen pressure

2020
High pressure is a very effective tool for the synthesis of new hydrogen-rich compounds, because it dramatically increases the reactivity of molecular hydrogen. Various new hydrides have been discovered in recent years, including superhydrides and materials with nearly room-temperature superconductivity (H${}_{3}$S, LaH${}_{10}$, YH${}_{9}$, etc.). Here, the authors study the hydrogen reactivity with osmium, which was the last group IV-X transition metal that could not be hydrogenated until now.
