Molecular detection of Anaplasma marginale and A. ovis (Rickettsiales: Anaplasmataceae) in ixodid tick species from Iran

The present study conducted the first molecular detection of Anaplasma species in tick samples based on sequencing of msp4 gene fragment in different parts of Iran. A number of 130 tick specimens were collected from Hormozgan, Lorestan and Guilan provinces from 2015 to 2017. Hyalomma asiaticum, H. dromedarii, Rhipicephalus sanguineus and R. (Boophilus) sp. were identified in different geographical regions. An amplicon of 464-bp msp4 of Anaplasma was amplified using PCR in various tick species. Three sequences, including one Anaplasma marginale from R. (Boophilus) sp. and two A. ovis from Rhipicephalus sanguineus were obtained after sequencing. It is concluded that bovine and ovine anaplasmosis are present in tick samples collected from Iran. It’s recommended the use of MSPs gene families to detect various Anaplasma species. Cette etude visait a determiner la presence d'agents bacteriens Anaplasma chez les especes de tiques sur la base de l'amplification par PCR et du sequencage du fragment du gene msp4 dans differentes parties de l'Iran. Un nombre de 130 specimens de tiques ont ete collectes dans les provinces de Hormozgan, Lorestan et Guilan de 2015 a 2017. Hyalomma asiaticum, H. dromedarii, Rhipicephalus sanguineus et R. (Boophilus) sp. ont ete identifies dans differentes regions geographiques. Un amplicon de msp4 de 464 pb d'Anaplasma a ete amplifie chez diverses especes de tiques. Trois sequences, dont une Anaplasma marginale de R. (Boophilus) sp. et deux A. ovis de Rhipicephalus sanguineus ont ete obtenus apres sequencage. Il est conclu que des anaplasmoses bovines et ovines sont presentes dans des echantillons de tiques en Iran. Il est recommande d’utiliser les familles de genes MSP pour detecter diverses especes d’Anaplasma.
