Psychosoziale Belastungen und Ressourcen von Patienten nach Polytrauma

2008
PURPOSE: The aim of the presented study was to investigate the impact of multiple injuries on the quality of life and to explore further psychosocial impairments and resources. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-eight patients estimated their health-related quality of life 2-4 years after the experience of multiple injuries using the SF-36 questionnaire. Within a qualitative approach, a semi-structured interview was applied in 13 patients and 10 close relatives to identify psychosocial impairments and resources associated with multiple injuries. RESULTS: Multiple injured patients showed significantly lower scores in eight subscales of the SF-36 compared to the German norm population. Adequate social support, active coping strategies as well as a positive re-interpretation of the stressful experience were identified as important resources for psychosocial adjustment. CONCLUSIONS: Findings emphasize the need for psychosocial counselling and provide knowledge about relevant topics and designs of effective outpatient rehabilitation.
