Traditional Schemes for Irrigation Management, an Iranian Case Study

Traditional irrigation systems have different names in Iran. But have same functions and structures. Boneh is one of the most important traditional irrigation systems. Unfortunately, there are not enough researches about this system. Therefore in this paper we have focused on it. We have tried to describe it comprehensively using several references. The results showed that Boneh is one of the oldest and the best good working traditional irrigation systems and is one of the most sustainable water harnessing methods because it is adapted to natural and climatic conditions of the region and also is according to economical and social characteristics of the district. Boneh should be one of the dynamic research topics is agricultural and social sciences and also governmental planners and stewards should attend it.
