[Action of d-norgestrel (post-coital and minidoses) on the content of the diesterase enzyme in the human endometrium]
1976
36 patients on D-Norgestrel and 5 controls were investigated to study the action of the drug on the diesterase enzyme secreted by the endometrium and which is responsible for the functional and structural changes on which the motility and fertilizing power of spermatozoa depends. D-Norgestrel was administered either postcoitally or in continuous minidoses and the endometrial liquid was gathered and examined 5 times. There were no significant enzymatic changes in the first 2 hours after ingestion of the drug; from the 3rd to the 7th hour a decrease in enzymatic values was noted. The absence of enzymatic activity in 80% of cases studied could be the fundamental cause for the decrease in spermatic activity and the principal mechanism for the contraceptive action of D-Norgestrel.
