Eponyms and Other Inane Titles for Diseases

The list of forgotten Pediatric diseases in the April issue Pediatrics, prompted me to list the following from the abstracts of the papers presented at the recent American Pediatric Society Meeting. In addition to these there appeared these inane titles to syndromes: "Cat-Eve," "Chinese Restaurant," and "Stale Fish." Should not all of these designations be relegated to oblivion? What is wrong with a name like "Trisomy 21" or "Hemihypertrophy?"
