PFCB fibers in nanometer scale

A method of manufacturing a fibrous layer for fuel cell applications includes the step of mixing a perfluorocyclobutyl-containing resin with a water-soluble carrier resin to form a resinous mixture. The resinous mixture is then molded to form a molded resinous mixture. The molded resinous mixture has perfluorocyclobutyl-containing structures within the carrier resin. The molded resinous mixture is brought into contact with water (ie, washed) to separate the perfluorocyclobutyl containing structures from the carrier resin. Optionally be added to the perfluorocyclobutyl containing structures protogenic groups and a catalyst.
