Design of post mine topography to maintain hydrologic integrity of surface streams

US surface mine regulations require that mine sites shall be restored in such a way as to preserve their hydrologic integrity. Some of the problems encountered in drawing up a reclamation plan, and the ways in which they may be solved, are described with reference to the Big Stey coal mine, Montana.
