Application of Minimally Invasive Technique(Mammotome) for Gynecomastia

2011
Objective To explore the minimally invasive surgery(Mammotome) for the treatment of gynecomastia. Methods From April 2008 to April 2011,27 cases(46 sides) of gynecomastia underwent the minimally invasive resection(Mammotome) of mammary glands.Patients were 35(23~60) years old. There were bilateral hyperplasia of mammary glands in 19 cases and single-sided 8 cases.Anesthetic was injected under the skin and above the pectoralis major muscle under the guidance of B-ultrasound.A small incision was made at the inside or outside edge of the focus. The rotary cutter was used by B-ultrasound guided for resection of the mammary glands, first in the middle, and then on the both sides. When the entire gland was completely cut down, the rotary cutter could move around freely under the nipple's skin. Results The operation time was about 2~15min for each side and the whole hospital stay was(3.07±0.87) days. This group was free from infection and postoperative hematoma.1 case suffered from the local swelling, but got cured without treatment. All patients were followed up for 1~36 months and were found living a normal life. Conclusion It is a simple operation with advantages of mini injury, quick recovery and no scars of the minimally invasive resection(Mammotome) for the treatment of gynecomastia.
