MHD STABILITY FOR A SPHERATOR WITH A PURELY POLOIDAL MAGNETIC FIELD

Abstract The stability against MHD-perturbations has been investigated for a Spherator with a purely poloidal magnetic field. A steeply decreasing pressure distribution can be obtained if the boundary is situated close to a magnetic separatrix. However, modes driven by currents across the field lines restrict the beta value in the neighbourhood of the separatrix.
