Influence of an external magnetic field on the metal--insulator phase transition in vanadium oxides

1979
An investigation was made of the influence of a strong magnetic field (up to 150 kOe) on the temperature of the metal--insulator phase transition in vanadium oxides. The magnetic field did not alter the phase transition temperature. This result was analyzed using models of the transition in which this effect was predicted. A study was made of the magnetization of V/sub 7/O/sub 12/ and V/sub 8/O/sub 15/ in fields up to 100 kOe. An anomalous behavior of the magnetization of V/sub 8/O/sub 15/ was attributed to weak ferromagnetism of this compound.
