Less invasive stabilization system for treatment of peri-knee fractures

2008
Objective To evaluate the results of treatment of severe complicated fractures of distal femoral and proximal tibia with the less invasive stabilization system(LISS).Methods 16 cases of severe complicated fractures of distal femoral and proximal tibia were treated by LISS.Healing of wounds, the X-ray films before and after operations were observed. Results All cases were followed up for 4~12 months.Primary healing for the incision occurred and good alignment was found in the plain X-ray film in all cases. No complication, such as infection, loosening of internal fixation and breakage of plate occurred in any cases. Conclusions LISS for treatment of peri-knee fractures has the advantages of less injury, reliable fixation, promoting bone union and preserving the most function of knee.
