Model predictive control applied toward the building indoor climate

2020
Abstract Model predictive control (MPC) is finding wide applications in building indoor climate control and energy saving. It is a method of optimizing an objective function by designing a sequence of inputs, taking both defined and forced constraints into consideration. These MPC studies, reported measures, or/and strategies are classified in this chapter, thus providing a guideline for scholars, researchers, and policy-makers. In this state-of-the-art review of MPC applied toward building indoor climate control, a summary of previous reviews are first analyzed. This is followed by the theory and application of MPC. The main factors influencing MPC are then introduced, and research gaps are proposed by authors and listed before a brief conclusion. This chapter is expected to help readers have a better understanding of established research methods around MPC for building indoor climate control.
