Feminist Stand in Kenyan Swahili Novel After 2000

2018
The article sets out to demonstrate the prominence of the feministic mindset in the recent novels of Kenyan writers of Swahili expression. It tries to demonstrate that the novelists, regardless of their gender, are advocating the principles of equality, parity and harmony in gender relationship as a constructive standpoint for the development of the Kenyan nation. To demonstrate this, the article uses examples of various novels written by both male and female Kenyan writers that have been published in the last decades of the twentieth and the first decades of the current century, namely novels of Sheila Ryanga (Dago wa Munje), Clara Momanyi (Tumaini and Nakuruto), Ken Walibora (Siku Njema, Kufa Kuzikana and Ndoto ya Almasi) and Kyallo Wadi Wamitila (Nguvu ya Sala, Msimu wa Vipepeo and Msichana wa Mbalamwezi).
