Study on the Preparation of 2,4-Dicumylphenol

There was an increasing need for 2,4-dicumylphenol in the market recently,and it could be used as antioxidant and fungicide.In order to raise the yield and reduce the production cost,the preparation of 2,4-dicumylphenol with phenol and α-methylstyrene was studied.From the effects of reaction temperature,material ratio and reaction time,a perfect process route of 2,4-dicumylphenol was developed:p-methylbenzene sulfonic acid was as catalyst whose usage was 3 % of phenol molar,molar ratio of α-methylstyrene and phenol was 2.2,at 100 ℃,over 4 h,and the yield of 2,4-dicumylphenol was 74.1 %.
