A Survey on the Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Burnout with Mental Health among Staff of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences

Aim: Nowadays burnout of staff is one of the key factors in efficiency reduction and loss of human resources. Job satisfaction is a personal attitude toward one's job and an important factor in career success which can increase efficiency, creativity and a sense of personal satisfaction. Factors in the workplace can affect a person's mental health. The purpose of present survey is to study the relation of job satisfaction and burnout with mental health among staff of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. Method: The research sample was 170 employees from Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences staff and participants were randomly selected. The research method was correlation and the research instrument was consisted of three questionnaires including the index of job satisfaction by Brayfield & Rothe (1951) which contains 19 items and Maslesh Burnout Inventory which is formed by 22 separate statements that measures the burnout from three dimensions ( emotional exhaustion , personality metamorphosis and a sense of personal accomplishment) and Goldberg's 28-Item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) Findings: The survey's result shows that there is a meaningful (significant) relation between job satisfaction and mental health of the staff, at 0.01 level there is a meaningful relation between burnout and mental health and also job satisfaction and burnout are appropriate predictors for mental health of the staff Conclusion: The results indicated a meaningful relation between job satisfaction and burnout with mental health.
