This chapter gives an opportunity to the readers for a peek into the history of nitrous oxide and the story behind its discovery. Some important milestones in the development of nitrous oxide as an anesthetic agent of choice in medicine and then later in dentistry have been highlighted like the first demonstration of nitrous oxide at Harvard Medical School and how it was a “failure” but yet not.
