Anticardiolipin antibodies and their association with the brain

1993
: With the aim of establishing whether there is a relationship between anticardiolipin antibodies and migraine a prospective single blind study was performed. One hundred patients were analyzed, 50 without migraine [22 men (44%) and 28 women (56%)] and 50 with migraine 20 men (40%) and 30 women (60%). The mean age of the control group was 28.3 years (range 15 to 39) and that of the group with migraine was 26.5 years (range 14 to 40). The anticardiolipin antibodies were positive in two cases of each group. This study demonstrates that no association exists between migraine and the presence of anticardiolipin antibodies. Patients with migraine have the same incidence of anticardiolipin antibodies as the general population (4%).
