2006
Objective To analyze the morbidity factors of acute schistosomiasis in 2005 in Hubei province in order to explore effective treatment and prevention strategies.Method An excel database created with the help of DBASE software was established to analyze the morbidity factors of acute schistosomiasis.Infected patients' data and epidemiological data concerning locality of acute schistosomiasis outbreaks were analyzed.Result In Hubei province between May and August 2005,acute schistosomiasis showed a pronounced increase with a total of 153 reported cases.Provincial statistics show that infections in males outnumbered infections in females with a ratio of 3.3∶1.Furthermore,the majority of infections occurred mostly in rural residents age 36~55,and secondly in students age 7~15.Acute schistosomiasis of these areas became epidemic. In this instance the treatment and prevention of acute schistosomiasis in two areas was not successful. The farmers of age firstly,in students between the ages of seven and fifteen from epidemic regions and secondly.Result of the review showed that the prevention and control of schistosomiasis of the farm cattle was the worst. The attack rate of the acute schistosomiasis was relatively low in the past three years. The attack rate of male was higher than that of female. It is difficult to completely prevent the disease and some preventive measures could not be implemented. Conclusion The endemic regions in 2005 was the same regions as the previous outbreaks, therefore more stringent measures of prevention and control of the diseases must be implemented in these regions.Furthermore, health education on the prevention and treatments of the diseases must be provided in the rural areas and especially the primary schools. In order to effectively control and reduce the occurrence of acute schistosomiasis we must first deal with the problems and difficulties that we have faced in treatment and prevention. Most importantly treatment of human and animals, particularly the farm cattle, must be done conjointly. Each year we must strengthen our effort to control acute schistosomiasis.
