Development of Creep Decreased Axlebox Suspension of Cone-Shaped Multi-Layer Rubberspring

In this article, the researchers present a study into the optimization of rubber mix proportions used in axle-box suspension springs. High-grade rubber materials are necessary for these applications due to rubber deterioration at older ages. Additionally, a newly designed carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) flexible coupling has recently begun to be implemented that would necessitate adaptations regardless. In order to improve these rubber materials, researchers developed two rubber mixtures and then tested their products against one another and the antiquated mixture finding that the newer types had 25-40 percent greater longevity. Their first prototype, which did not meet their specification requirements, required being loaded 107 times for priming to reduce its initial static spring constant value. Their second prototype did not require this priming cycle.
