The “Rocky” Pancreas

2021
We present a striking picture of pancreatic calcification in a 42-year-old lady with minimal symptoms. The 42-year-old married lady presented with nonspecific symptoms, i.e., abdominal discomfort, predominantly in the epigastrium. She was, however, undergoing medical treatment including hormones for primary infertility. She did not consent to MRI MRCP examination; therefore, a plain CT scan was done, which demonstrated a striking pancreatic calcification. We made a diagnosis of idiopathic chronic pancreatitis. This was an incidental discovery as the patient came to hospital for infertility treatment. Long-term effects of idiopathic chronic pancreatitis in asymptomatic subjects with florid calcification like this need to be studied.
