Description of a specific lesion of the foot related to the practice of Friday prayers in Muslim patients living with diabetes

2020
Abstract We describe the discovery of a specific lesion related to long prayer. This lesion is located around the lateral malleolus in a group of diabetic patients who suffer from peripheral neuropathy and who are of the Muslim faith. Methods Retrospective review of case notes. Results Excessive pressure during prayer, which is not felt by the patients owing to neuropathy, provokes a specific lesion around the malleolus, leading to a risk of complications with the diabetic foot. Conclusion Simple prevention of excessive pressure must be implemented in such a manner to avoid the appearance of lesions during long prayers in patients of the Muslim faith.
