BUS LANES IN LONDON

1973
This paper looks at means of identifying opportunities for improving the facilities provided for bus movement in London the assessment of priorities for specific measures, and the design and implementation procedure for bus lanes. Where the present road network is extensively used by buses there is inevitably a conflict of demand for the available road space. Methods are indicated of examining the feasibility of providing priority for buses and of assessing the benefits to be achieved. Various types of solution are described with specific examples and suggestions for appropriate standards, on the assumption of certain basic policies of provision for general traffic movement. Some thought is given to possible changes of policy emphasis in the future. /AUTHOR/
