La historia termo-cronológica de las Islas Shetland del Sur (Antártida Occidental), mediante el estudio de trazas de fisión en apatitos
2000
Apatite apparent fission track ages were obtained in three samples from the South Shetland
Archipelago (Antarctic Peninsula). Apatites from Livingston Island yielded Late Oligocene (25.6
± 0.9 Ma, Miers Bluff Formation, Hurd Peninsula) to Early Miocene (22.6 ± 1.2 Ma, tonalites,
Barnard Point) ages. However, apatites from King George Island yielded ages slightly older, i. e.
Early Oligocene (31,8 ± 2,6 Ma, granodiorite, Barton Peninsula). These ages suggest indicating
cooling through 100 ± 10°C coeval with the end of the main magmatic event and appear to be
older towards the SE.
