Significance of 17 Variant Chromosome in Three Families

SUMMARYA short arm variant of chromosome 17 was observed in five normal and abnormal individuals of three families. The results, obtained by differential staining techniques, show that the 17p variant has neither active ribosomal cistrons nor constitutive heterochromatin.The possible effects of such variant on the carriers' offspring are discussed.
