ABS/NBS Karlsruhe-Basel – Implementation of line section 1 and special features of the Rastatt Tunnel / ABS/NBS Karlsruhe-Basel – Realisierung des Streckenabschnitts 1 und Besonderheiten beim Bau des Rastatter Tunnels

The northernmost section 1 (StA 1) of the section of line being upgraded (ABS) and newly built (NBS) between Karlsruhe and Basel runs from Karlsruhe to Rastatt Sud. 16 km of new line is being built, which should be in operation in 2022. The core structure of StA 1 is the 4, 270 m long Rastatt Tunnel, the second largest engineered structure in the overall ABS/NBS Karlsruhe-Basel project after the Katzenberg Tunnel. The main contract for the construction of the tunnel was awarded in August 2014. The first preparatory construction measures on site started in summer 2013. Due to the prevailing conditions of topography and existing infrastructure and the continuously increasing requirements of approvals and codes, the construction of the Rastatt Tunnel poses great challenges for the engineers, which demand innovative solutions in design and construction as well as a collaborative approach from all those involved in the project. Der nordlichste Streckenabschnitt 1 (StA 1) der Ausbau- und Neubaustrecke (ABS/NBS) Karlsruhe-Basel fuhrt von Karlsruhe bis nach Rastatt Sud. Hier entsteht ein rund 16 km langer Neubaustreckenabschnitt, der 2022 in Betrieb genommen werden soll. Das Herzstuck des StA 1 ist der 4.270 m lange Tunnel Rastatt, nach dem Katzenbergtunnel das zweitgroste Ingenieurbauwerk im Gesamtprojekt ABS/NBS Karlsruhe-Basel. Die Vergabe fur das Hauptgewerk Tunnelrohbau erfolgte im August 2014. Mit den ersten vorlaufenden Baumasnahmen vor Ort wurde bereits im Sommer 2013 begonnen. Durch die vorherrschenden Verhaltnisse aus Topographie und Bestand sowie stetig steigende Genehmigungs- und Regelwerksanforderungen stellt die Realisierung des Rastatter Tunnels die Ingenieure vor herausfordernde Aufgaben, die innovative Losungen in Planung und Bau sowie eine partnerschaftliche Herangehensweise aller Projektbeteiligten erfordern.
