A new subspecies of freshwater medusa from Zhejiang

The specimens were collected from a pool in Huajie town,Yongkang city(28°54′N,120°02′E),Zhejiang Province on November 18,2002. After a preliminary study, we consider that their marginal tentacles are longer,thin and arranged in six orders, giving a total number of 479-719,the average is 608. Perradial tentacles four ,not markedly longer than other tentacles,about 3/5 of the diameter of umbrella;Four gonads long-triangular,flattened pocket-like,smoothly,with a fingered projection beneath gonads,and brownish yellow in color when living;Statocysts tubular,163-208 in number,the average is 183;Large diameter of umbrella;More tentacles,more orders of tentacles and more statocysts. These characters of the new subspecies are distinguished from these species and subspecies we have known. The animal is identified as a new subspecies of Craspedacusta sowerbyi.
