Search for spin-dependent effects in c-quark fragmentation

Events of the reaction e/sup +/e/sup -/ ..-->.. c anti c at 29 GeV were isolated by observing D* mesons through D*/sup +/ ..-->.. D/sup 0/..pi../sup +/ decay. The D/sup 0/ decay modes used are D/sup 0/ ..-->.. K..pi.., K3..pi.., and K..pi..(..pi../sup 0/). The data, which correspond to an integrated luminosity of 300 pb/sup -1/, were collected by the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP. All angular distributions examined are consistent with being isotropic; there is no evidence for D* alignment in the e/sup +/e/sup -/ reaction. 6 refs., 9 figs.
