1998
The article reports the visit of Basic Support for Institutionalizing Child Survival (BASIC) private sector coordinator Camille Saade and BASIC evaluation specialist Sandhya Raovisit to Bolivia to follow up on the marketing and evaluation activities of Suero de la Vida (SDV). One of these SDV activities followed up was the oral dehydration solution situation in the country. A meeting between the director general of health services representatives of the donor agencies and Mr. Saade was conducted to discuss the opportunity to supply part of the public sector requirements from local sources. This was in response to ORS product leakage to the commercial sector which has a detrimental effect on the sales in the private sector. In addition an assessment of SDV marketing campaigns in collaboration with the different marketing agencies is presented in this article. These agencies include the Inti Alfa UN Childrens Fund Community and Child Health Project Ministry of Health Central de Abastecimiento de Suministros and the Population Services International. Moreover an evaluation research was started and the Claro Project was introduced during the visit. Hiring of a part-time private sector consultant/product manager was recommended to manage the SDV campaign.
