The invention relates to the fields of jewelry, handicraft product and construction and decoration material productions. Specifically, the invention relates to artificial jade produced from inorganic chemical materials, and a preparation method thereof. The jade and the preparation method are characterized in that: the jade is produced from materials including all or parts of quartz powder, alumina or aluminum hydroxide, zinc oxide, soda ash, magnesium oxide, borax, sodium silicate, calcium oxide or calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, potassium carbonate, saponite and pigments. The preparation method comprises steps of: (1) weighing; (2) crushing and grinding; (3) mixing and stirring; (4) smelting; (5) carving, burnish and polishing. The artificial jade provided by the invention has characteristics of delicate and tough quality, mild gloss, high hardness, high toughness, good wear resistance, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and weathering resistance. The qualities of the products are stable, and are easy to control. Besides, the adopted raw materials are cheap, the production technology is simple, and the production cost is low. Therefore, the method has a goodapplication prospect.
