SUMMARY Seven tagging trips were carried out within the BETYP in waters of the Canary Islands and the African coast. The type of fishery was baitboat, using the boat as a floating object. 2576 bigeye, 59 Yellowfin, 49 skipjack and 1 bluefin were tagged. The sizes of bigeye tagged ranged between 40 and 111 cm (1.5 and 23 kg.). To date, 418 bigeye have been recaptured, i.e., 16.2%. The majority of these fish were recovered within the first three months after tagging, although some fish remained at large for more than three years. The majoity of the recoveries were made in areas close to where the fish had been tagged, although some fish had traveled more than 1000 miles.
