Preliminary Study on Interfacial Property of Polarized Polyethy-lene Coating/Steel

2001
This paper presents interfacial properties of polyethylene (PE), grafted Maleic Anhydride (PE-g-MAH), /steel using solid phase grafting. The effects of the graft ratio, degree of crosslinking and different surface preparation of steel on adhesive strength of polarized PE coating/steel has been studied. The action and effect of adding bifunctional epoxy compound (EP) to PE-g-MAH has been investigated, and the influences of EP, its latent curing agent and accelerating agent on adhesion force of coating/steel has also been discussed using viscosity mutation and DSC. Experimental results show that adhesion force of PE/steel has been improved after PE was modi-fied and it is determined by the graft ratio of PE-g-MAH, but it is limited by degree of crosslinding. Meanwhile the adhesion force has obviously improved by adding quantitatively EP, its latent curing agent and accelerating agent, or by proper phosphating treatment.
