Optical and thermal properties of gamma irradiated NiCl2 doped PVC PANI films

2018
The optical and thermal properties of gamma irradiated NiCl2/ PANI/ PVC blends for varying concentrations of NiCl2 have been studied using Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and photoluminescence (PL) respectively. Direct, indirect and Urbach’s energies have been calculated using UV- visible spectra of the blends and the parameters have been found to change considerably after doping and gamma irradiation. The band edge has been found to shift towards lower wavelength with the increased concentration of the dopant. DTA has been utilized to calculate glass transition temperature and complex peak of the samples. It has been noticed that with the increase in concentration of nickel chloride the peak shift towards higher temperature but after gamma irradiation it decreases, due to structural degradation. In case of photoluminescence studies, it has been noticed that tristimulus values increases upto 5% concentration of the dopant and then it decreases at 7.5% concentration.
