A novel approach to PLCs based systems utilized in electric drives

This paper studies the possibilities of extending the usage range of classical PLCs, and proposes the minimum requirements for these in electric drives. Direct torque and closed-loop critical computation methods are implemented in two different PLC types. For both PLC types, simulation results are compared with experimental results, in order to validate the accuracy of the system.
