Companies that operate machinery need to be aware of the exact status of their machines and systems at all times in order to detect damage or changes in operating behaviour at the earliest possible point in time. This applies in particular to high-value machines and systems and those subject to high down-time costs or significant risks. Vibration monitoring and diagnosis provide effective indicators of machine and system status. A number of different methods enable operators to make reliable predictions about the need for maintenance and/or inspections. Some of the analytical methods are described below.
