Media en politici bashen vakbonden, geven geen enkele informatie

2017
Trade unions were recently publicly attacked by members of the government and media; in contrast to being largely ignored usually. This is explained by the announced strike of the public services on October 10th. I show that the extensive information provided by the trade unions about their daily negociations and actions in sectors and companies, is ignored by the media. As a consequence politicians and the public at large have a very incomplete and biased perception of the trade unions. The paper includes an extensive list of websites of (the Dutch speaking) union activities and proposals, as of half September 2017. The reason for the silence of the media is their corporate ownership: owners and advertisers do not want to promote unionism; actually they hope for a society without unions.
