Experimental Demonstration of OFDM Based WDM-MIMO Visible Light Communication System

This paper describes a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) multicolor light emitting diode (LED) visible light communication (VLC) system to achieve high data rates. We propose a multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) scheme with successive interference cancellation (SIC) detection to cancel the inter-color interference from the spectral overlap of LEDs. The simulation results show that SIC-MIMO using a 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme improves the bit error rate (BER) of seven color WDM-VLC. We demonstrated experiments of three color WDM-VLC with SIC-MIMO. The results confirmed that the SIC method works even in WDM-VLC properly and effectively.
