Potato isone of thehorticulturecommoditieswhich have ahigh economic value .In 2011,potato productivity value inNorth Sumatrareach 7.49ton/ha lower. Thedominant casewhich couldincreasepotato productivity is variety . Indonesian Vegetables Research Institute has releasedvarioustypes ofpotato varietyof highproductivityvalue. The purpose of this research was to evaluate potato variety which introduces in the Karo highlands. The experiment was carried out in Berastagi experimental unit in DolatRayat,Berastagiat 1.340m above sea levelfromSeptember-December 2011.The experimentwas arrangedin arandomized block designwithvarietiesas treatments:Cipanas,Ping,Merbabu,Margahayu,GM 05 andGM 08.Eachtreatment hadthreereplicatesand conducted in the total area of 1,000 m 2 .The results showedthat Merbabu varieties had thehighest productivity which could increased30.9% (25.357tons/ha)fromGM 08 varieties and than , followed by Ping ( 23.887tons/ha)andCipanas(20.195ton/ha).
