Classifying in Italy: the cultural employment: methodology of a re- cent survey

2012
According to European/Eurostat methodology, data on cultural employment based on the EU-Labor Force Survey is calculated using a matrix crossing employed in cultural economic activities (NACE Rev.1.1 classification) with employed in cultural occupations (ISCO-88). Since 2004 in Italy both NACE and ISCO are available at 4-digit level, thus allowing a quite analytic classification. In 2010, separately, 386 thousand people are employed in the cultural domains (NACE) and 336 thousand in cultural occupations (ISCO). Part of these (137 thousand) are employed both in cultural domains and in cultural occupations, but many more (249 thousand) are the professionals (architects, designers, etc.) employed outside the cultural domains, whereas 199 thousand are employed in the cultural domains in non cultural occupations (administration, etc.). In 2010, cultural employment as a whole amounted at 585 thousand people.
