Screening test for antimicrobial activities of 25 species of pteridophytes from Fuzhou, Fujian

25 species of pteridophytes from Fuzhou Fujian were examined for antimicrobial activities against Bacillus subtilis, Fschevichia coil, Sacchamyces cerevisiae and Aspergillus niger. The results showed that 23 species of pteridophytes under 14 Families, 19 Genera had antimicrobial activities and the alcohol extract of each species had antimicrobial activities against at least one tested microorganism. The diameter of the inhibition zone was 8~24mm. The four species of Dryopteridaceae exhibited much higher activities than those of tested pier idophytes.
