Reactions of organometallic derivatives of substituted phenols with dimethyl sulfoxide

1978
1. Electronic spectroscopy and conductometric measurements have been used to study the reactions of various nitrophenols and their organometallic derivatives with DMSO. 2. Each of the compounds covered by this work formed a molecular complex with DMSO which partially dissociated into ions without passing through an intermediate ion-pair state. 3. The complexing constants for the reactions of p-nitrophenol and its organometallic derivatives with DMSO fall off in the order: ArOH>ArOPb(C6H5)3>ArOSn(C6H5)3>ArOHg-C6H5 >ArOSb(C6H5)4. 4. The constants for dissociation in DMSO fall off in parallel with the decrease in the electron donor activity of the RnMO group: ArOSB(C6H5)4>ArOPb(C6H5)3>ArOHgC6H5> ArOSn(C6H5)3>ArOH.
