Report on the results of 2829 IUD insertions at Modena family counseling centers

Appraisal of the results of 2829 IUD insertions at Modena Italy Family Counseling Centers is reported. The parameters for assessing their effectiveness were: parity pain stillicidium menometrorrhagia pelvic inflammation expulsion and pregnancies. Emphasis is placed on the positive results obtained--Pearl index .9 and continuity index 93.7%. A careful assessment was made of the differences between nulliparae and multipara. There was a significantly higher frequency of pregnancy (P.001) in the latter group although this finding requires further corroboration. As expected cases of pelvic inflammation were more numerous in the nulliparous group (P.01). (authors modified) (summary in ENG)
