1994
This document is one of 10 tools in the GENESYS (Gender in Economic and Social Systems) Tool Kit developed with funding from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to support USAIDs efforts to institutionalize gender considerations in development assistance efforts worldwide so that womens contributions to and benefit from development may increase. The ten kits fall within five categories and this kit is one of three categorized as a quantitative tool. Using data from a household survey conducted in Cochabamba Bolivia this tool explains how to present sex-disaggregated data from household surveys and how to use the data to analyze sectoral policy. The introduction to the booklet presents the rational behind development of the tool and describes its purpose usefulness target audience strengths and limitations. The tool contains a description of the Bolivian survey findings and methodology as well as a translated copy of the questionnaire used in data collection and a bibliography of more in-dept analyses of the data. The Bolivian survey was conducted to enable rural development planners to assess the household-level economic impact of various agricultural policies. The survey was designed to gather data on all income sources and employment of all members of the household over age six. This tool provides an example of how sex-disaggregated data can reveal significant gender differences in economic participation and can be used as a first step in gender analysis.
