A study on the Self-Concept and Psychological Well Being among the Mothers of Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

The present investigation is an attempt to study the Self-Concept and Psychological Well Being among the working mothers and home makers of children aged around 5 to 13 years, with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The sample consisted of 50 upper middle class mothers of children with ADHD, out of which 25 mothers were home-makers and the rest 25 mothers were working drawn from different organisations.  Their age ranged between 25 and 50, belonging to the Chennai city.  The Psychological Well Being Scale by Harold Dupy (1984) and Self-Concept scale by Mukta Rani Rastogi (1979) were assessed on the sample.  The obtained data was subjected to t test and results revealed that Working mothers have higher Positive Self Concept and less on Negative Self Concept than the Home makers and not much of a difference on their Psychological Well being.
