The effect of maternal health programmes on infant and child survival in India.

This study examined the effect of maternal care programs on infant and child mortality in India. Data for the analysis were taken from National Family Health Surveys 1992-93 reports of India and major States. The maternal care indicators considered include percentage receiving antenatal care those receiving two doses of tetanus toxoid vaccine those receiving iron and folic acid tablets births delivered in medical institutions and deliveries assisted by health professionals. It was noted that these indicators were highly correlated with different mortality measures.
